Grenlander L-ZEAL 56: What to Check Before You Buy

Grenlander L-ZEAL 56 tyre beside the title L-ZEAL 56 Buying Guide

The Grenlander L-ZEAL 56 is a passenger tyre labelled UHP (ultra-high performance). Before you buy a set, check three things: the full size, the load index and the speed rating. All three should match your vehicle’s tyre placard and one exact row in the L-ZEAL 56 size table. Then find a retailer who can supply that row.

This guide is built from the product information published on this site. It is a buying checklist rather than a road test, so it doesn’t rate noise, grip, braking or tread life.

Where the L-ZEAL 56 sits in the Grenlander range

Grenlander lists seven passenger patterns in Australia. The L-ZEAL 56 is the only one tagged UHP. The other six are tagged PCR, short for passenger car radial.

The L-ZEAL 56 product page describes the tread like this:

  • an asymmetric tread with linked lateral grooves
  • wide shoulder blocks with sipes
  • linked tread elements and longitudinal ribs

An asymmetric tread uses different layouts on its inner and outer halves. Your fitter should follow the fitting markings on the tyre itself. Our tread pattern guide explains the terms if you want more detail.

These features describe the design. They don’t tell you how the tyre will perform on your car. The UHP label works the same way: it names a tyre type and doesn’t confirm that a tyre suits a particular vehicle.

Step 1: Read the size from your placard and sidewall

Take the size from your vehicle’s tyre placard, then compare it with the marking on the tyres fitted now. If the two differ, ask a tyre professional which one applies before you order.

Using 205/55R16 91W as the example:

  • 205 is the nominal section width in millimetres.
  • 55 is the aspect ratio. The sidewall height is 55% of the width, about 113 mm.
  • R means radial construction.
  • 16 is the rim diameter in inches.
  • 91 is the load index.
  • W is the speed symbol.

On our tyre sizes page you can type the first part of the size (205/55R16) and see every Grenlander pattern listed in it.

The same method works for any size. This example is a CONQUEWIND R/T size.

Step 2: Pick the exact row in the size table

The L-ZEAL 56 table has 126 manufacturer rows, from 195/45R15 to 255/30ZR24. They cover rims from 15 to 24 inches. Most of them (99 rows) are 17 to 20 inch sizes.

Three sizes appear twice with different ratings. 205/55R16 is the one most drivers will recognise:

Size Load / speed Load per tyre Speed symbol Listed rim
205/55R16 91W 615 kg 270 km/h 6 1/2J
205/55R16 94W XL 670 kg 270 km/h 6 1/2J

Load and speed values from the standard load index and speed symbol charts (Bridgestone Australia’s chart is one public copy). They are ratings under defined conditions. They are not a recommended road speed.

Both rows have the same speed symbol, so the difference is the load index. Buy the row that matches your placard. A higher number on its own doesn’t make a tyre a suitable swap, so have your tyre professional confirm any change.

The other two pairs change both numbers:

  • 225/55R17: 97V or 101W
  • 235/55R17: 99V or 103W

Watch the suffixes as well. Some rows carry XL, such as 205/55ZR17 95W XL. Some use ZR in the size, such as 255/35ZR18 94W. Copy the size exactly as the table shows it.

In 205/55R16, the 94W row is the XL (Extra Load) version. Ask your supplier to confirm the full sidewall marking of the tyre they will fit, and check it again when the tyres arrive.

For more on these codes, read our load index and speed rating guide.

Step 3: Check the pattern suits your car

Almost every L-ZEAL 56 row is W or V rated. Of the 126 rows, 90 are W and 34 are V. One is H and one is Y. If your placard calls for a low-profile size with one of those ratings, the L-ZEAL 56 is worth putting on your shortlist.

If your car runs a common touring size, compare other passenger patterns too. 205/55R16 is also listed under COLO H01, COLO H02, ENRI U08 and KINGPRO ONE, each with its own ratings. Our Grenlander range guide explains where each category fits.

How to read an L-ZEAL 56 review

If you’re searching for an L-ZEAL 56 review, look for the detail behind each comment:

  • Which size and rating was fitted?
  • What car was it, and what does it usually carry?
  • What roads does it drive on, and how many kilometres had the tyres done?

A comment about one car on one size tells you little about another. For a wider look at the brand, read Are Grenlander tyres any good?
